The scholars followed the directions in a book and created their own rockets. We had a blast! Today we took the Topic Nine test online. I like that my students can see their results immediately.
Scholars are working in triads to discuss and solve problems from the Topic 9 Digital Enhanced Test.
The scholars of room 18 are discussing Christmas gifts inside Google Classroom. They are sharing their thoughts and responding to other posts.
This week we are participating in the Hour of Code. The scholars are working on Minecraft-themed coding and really seem to enjoy it. They will be helping some primary grade students Code this Friday too.
The scholars of room 18 are off to a great start. Everyone showed up ready to learn. We spent a great deal of time on procedures but managed to start our first math lesson and do a Times Tables Assessment. The results of that assessment will go home soon.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Mr. Riggs Last Friday we gave 200 marshmallows and 200 toothpicks to teams of three and asked them to build the tallest but most stable structure they could. The final record was 10 inches (two teams tied).
We spent the afternoon on a fun STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) activity using marshmallows and toothpicks. We added some stop-motion movie magic with Lego Movie Maker and made the videos below. Enjoy!
Some students made some short, oral reports on a character from their book using the iPad app Tellagami. Check out the "Gamis" below.
On Friday we used balloons to learn about static electricity. Check out the videos below. We had a wonderful first day of school in room 18. The scholars worked hard and are adjusting well to fourth grade.
It was a pleasure to meet many of the parents this morning. Looking forward to Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 2. We had a great time in San Diego last Thursday. We visiting the Mission, took a cruise through San Diego Harbor and finished with tours of Old Town.
Today, Mrs. Asencio's class used Tellagami for the first time to share details about animal and plants adaptations. They had a blast and didn't want to leave!
As we learn more about Google Classroom, we're running into some challenges and new workflows. I'm impressed that my students are starting to take more ownership of their learning.
It's a new dynamic and I'm glad my students are willing to experiment every day with technology and Common Core. We are learning, thinking and growing. Looking forward to another day of learning for the Scholars (and myself)! |
